GIRA is committed to fostering the next generation of global leaders through premier Model United Nations conferences. With a legacy spanning over 50 years, GIRA provides students with immersive simulations that cultivate critical thinking, diplomacy, and leadership skills. Our conferences, designed for college, high school, and middle school students, offer unparalleled opportunities to engage with pressing global issues, refine public speaking abilities, and collaborate with peers from around the world.
Below, you'll find details on each of our signature conferences, tailored to provide students with a transformative educational experience in international affairs.
NATIONAL COLLEGIATE SECURITY CONFERENCE
The National Collegiate Security Conference (NCSC) is one of the oldest and most prestigious UN simulations for college students around the world.
NCSC is the number one in the world fall collegiate Model UN conference. For over 50 years, we have provided college students with the opportunity to engage in modem, realistic, and security-focused committees that prepare them for a lifetime of diplomacy. Over the course of a weekend, nearly 800 delegates descend upon DC to participate in 26 unique and fast-paced UN simulations, engaging in dynamic debate to understand modern security concerns from the perspectives of national assemblies, state cabinets, corporate boards, councils, and inter-regional organizations. Our proximity to the nation’s most famous buildings and monuments allows delegates to fully immerse themselves in the diplomatic spirit, engaging with the District in a way most people never have the chance to. With an incredibly diverse slate and a well-trained team of staffers, NCSC operates like a well-oiled machine to bring college students the opportunity to explore diplomacy in nuanced and complex ways.
NORTH AMERICAN INVITATIONAL MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE
The North American Invitational Model United Nations (NAIMUN) conference is GIRA's flagship conference and one of the oldest and largest UN simulations for high school students in the world.
Since 1963, 3,300+ high school students from 25+ countries convene for four days to explore various problems of the world and seek solutions through discussion, negotiation, and debate. Students simulate roles as delegates to real United Nations committees and serve as representatives of their country’s policies. Students also participate in contemporary and historical crisis simulations. Students at NAIMUN are pushed to heighten their understanding of the international system through 41 mini-simulations, ranging from standard committees like the UN General Assembly and the Security Council to crisis simulations of various regional organizations, national cabinets, corporate boards, and political organizations.
DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA MODEL UNITED NATIONS
The District of Columbia Model United Nations (DistrictMUN) is the newest Model UN conference for Middle School Students on the circuit.
The conference was created to serve the large Middle School MUN community and to prepare them for public speaking, introduce them to debate, and educate them about international affairs in an engaging and fun manner. DistrictMUN is staffed and managed by undergraduate students from Georgetown University, all of whom have a keen interest in and substantial understanding of international relations. We believe that every student who comes to DistrictMUN should walk away more proficient in the critical 21st-century skills of public speaking, leadership, and writing.
