MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCES
GIRA is committed to fostering the next generation of global leaders through premier Model United Nations conferences. With a legacy spanning over 50 years, GIRA provides students with immersive simulations that cultivate critical thinking, diplomacy, and leadership skills. Our conferences, designed for college, high school, and middle school students, offer unparalleled opportunities to engage with pressing global issues, refine public speaking abilities, and collaborate with peers from around the world in the heart of Washington, D.C.
Below, you'll find details on each of our signature conferences, tailored to provide students with a transformative educational experience in international affairs.
NATIONAL COLLEGIATE SECURITY CONFERENCE
NCSC is the #1 collegiate Model UN conference, and one of the oldest and most prestigious on the worldwide college circuit.
With over 50 years of experience, NCSC provides college students with the opportunity to engage in modern, realistic, and security-focused committees that prepare them for a lifetime of diplomacy. Over the course of a fall weekend, nearly 800 delegates descend upon DC to participate in 29 unique and fast-paced simulations that push the boundaries of collegiate Model UN, engaging in dynamic debate to understand modern security concerns from the perspectives of a diverse slate of national assemblies, state cabinets, corporate boards, councils, inter-regional organizations, and more. NCSC’s proximity to the nation’s most famous buildings and monuments allows delegates to fully immerse themselves in the diplomatic spirit through speakers, excursions and more — engaging with the District in a way most never have the chance to.
NORTH AMERICAN INVITATIONAL MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE
NAIMUN is one of the oldest, largest, and most renowned Model UN simulations for high school students worldwide.
Since 1963, NAIMUN has brought together over 3,300 high school students from more than 25 countries to explore various problems of the world and seek solutions through discussion, negotiation, and debate over the course of a February weekend. Students simulate roles as delegates to real United Nations committees and serve as representatives of their country’s policies, or explore how figures could have responded to contemporary and historical crises in our renowned crisis simulations, such as NAIMUN’s 5-way National Security Apparatus — unique among high-school conferences. In each of NAIMUN’s 43 committees, our highly educated staff of Georgetown students brings a focus on education, diplomacy, and collaboration, setting up every delegate for future success.
DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA MODEL UNITED NATIONS
DistrictMUN gives middle school students their own Model UN conference, pushing international relations education further.
Created to serve the large middle school Model UN community in the DMV area and beyond, DistrictMUN prepares middle-school students for public speaking, introduces them to debate, and educates them about international affairs in an engaging and fun manner. DistrictMUN is staffed by undergraduate students from Georgetown University, all of whom have a keen interest in and substantial understanding of international relations. Education is built into each session of DistrictMUN’s two days, with students not only learning the basics of Model UN but also practicing collaboration, problem-solving, and communication. We believe that every student who comes to DistrictMUN should walk away more proficient in the critical 21st-century skills of public speaking, leadership, and writing.
