Over the next year, GIRA hopes to expand its programming to include an education-oriented Philanthropy and Outreach Program . The goal is to serve the DC area's community needs by offering local students an opportunity to become well-versed in international relations. By working with local high schools, our outreach activities will foster leadership and debate skills and a passion for global affairs.
The new Philanthropy and Outreach Program will compliment existing projects that have been held at our two Model UN conferences. Over the past two years, both NAIMUN and NCSC have established partnerships with non-profit organizations to raise awareness about critical international issues. Last year, NAIMUN XLV raised over $5,000 for Kiva, a microfinance non-profit. Kiva is an organization that allows individuals to lend funds directly to developing-world entrepreneurs in order to promote economic development. Additionally, this year, NCSC XXXVI will be partnering with Oxfam.
If you or your organization are interested in participating in GIRA's outreach activities, please email philanthropy@modelun.org.
